The project entailed the refurbishment of the existing house and the creation of a new rear extension. Having worked with our client on their previous house, we were asked to create a light-filled kitchen and garden room suitable for open-plan family living and entertaining in their new home.
The proposed scheme removed the external ground floor walls of a 3 storey range to the rear and designed a single storey extension with integral roof windows to flood the spacious kitchen/dining area with natural light. The room flows seamlessly to the outside with contemporary glazed doors to the rear terrace and maintains a harmonious connection to the existing house through a dual sided fireplace and open sitting room. In order to preserve the access of natural daylighting to the main house a small inner courtyard was located between the kitchen and existing house.
The building presents a successful articulation of contemporary living in a period terrace house. Our close working relationship with the client and bespoke detailing throughout resulted in a striking architectural project that was subsequently featured in Real Homes Magazine.
